CHC22015 Certificate II in Community Services

Have you considered a career in the health sector? This course has been developed in partnership with Western Health as preparation for the role of Health Services Assistant.

The course will introduce you to aspects of the role of a Health Services Assistant and includes a five day work placement at one of Western Health’s campuses located in Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown.

Course Information

On successful completion of this course, you will receive the CHC22015 Certificate II in Community Services.  You may also be offered a traineeship opportunity with Western Health leading to HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.

Many past participants who have successfully completed the course and gained a traineeship with Western Health have applied for on-going casual, part-time or full-time work across the three campuses.

Alternatively, this qualification may be used as a pathway qualification into a range of community services work.

Dates:

Days:
Mondays – Fridays (9 weeks)

Time:
9:30am – 3:00pm

Practical Placement:
Includes a 30 hour industry placement to ensure you have the best opportunity to apply and further develop your skills in a workplace setting. Placement will take place across Western Health campuses located in Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown.

Career Pathway

Successful completion of the Certificate II in Community Services may lead to the offer of a position in Western Health’s Health Services Assistant Traineeship program. Alternatively, graduates of the program may undertake further study in community services or seek employment in the following areas:

  • Assistant community services workers
  • Housekeeping assistant
  • Care service employee
  • Personal care assistant
  • Contact officers
  • Customer service staff
  • Domestic assistant
  • Provision of emergency relief
  • Home helper
  • Support worker

Entry Requirements

Enrolment Information
To be considered for enrolment in this program you must attend a pre-training interview. For non-eligible applicants’ full fee will apply. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

  • There are no formal entry requirements although it is expected that students will have to be proficient in the English Language and have a moderate computer, internet and email skills.
  • They also need to demonstrate genuine compassion and empathy towards others.
  • This training program includes an additional industry placement component (30 hours) and you will need to have a satisfactory National Police check and Working with Children Check (must be obtained by participant following acceptance into course).
  • Hospitals remain open 24 hours a day and require employees to work different shifts. This may include a mixture of morning, afternoon and night shifts. The length of each shift may vary. In addition, employees are expected to work on public holidays and school holidays.
  • Employees need to be physically fit to carry out all aspects of this position.
  • Students are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to commence and accredited training in Australia. Please see staff if you need any advice on this matter.

Assessment requirements
Examples of evidence gathering techniques that will be used:

  • Written assessments
  • Performance of role plays in a simulated environment
  • Case studies
  • Portfolio – collection of documentation from each unit of competency and grouped together as a holistic assessment (this method will also validate progressive assessing of elements of competency from a variety of units or specific units of competency)
  • Group discussions
  • Trainer questions/feedback plus student feedback and questions
  • Performance and demonstration of competencies required in the workplace
  • Workplace activities and supervisor feedback

  • National Police Check
  • Working With Children Check
